Provincetown:
Something for everyone...
When
you vacation in Provincetown you are one
of us. You can be yourself. Or you can
be someone else. Whatever you want to
be please be respectful to all. We are
a diverse, cosmopolitan community with
open arms... WELCOME.

Beaches and the Cape Cod National Seashore Park (CCNS)
In the early 1960’s the entire ocean side of Cape Cod was preserved as a national park - ocean beaches, critical coastal habitats and endangered wildlife were protected forever. Today you are the beneficiary of this far sighted legislation. There are two Cape Cod visitor centers, one in Eastham and another here devoted to the sand dune environment found only in Provincetown. Both provide educational exhibits and films, along with information about walking and biking trails, and ranger-guided activities.
Dune Excursions
Art Costa came back from World War II with a dream that the public would like to explore the vast desert of sand dunes surrounding his home town of Provincetown. Putting fat tires on Model A’s he launched Art’s Dune Tours to carry passengers out into this inaccessible environment where only hardy artists and nature lovers lived in primitive shacks without amenities like electricity and indoor plumbing. Today a fleet of SUV’s are federally permitted to give the general public access to this harsh and protected environment. It is truly a ride on the wild side.
Bird Watching
Provincetown’s abundance of migrating shore and sea birds is well documented. The outer Cape peninsular is some forty miles out to sea and migrating fowl use the protected woodlands, ponds, wetlands and salt marshes in the Cape Cod National Seashore Park as a welcome refueling stop on their trips from North to South America and back. The best starting point for bird watching information is the Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary found at www.wellfleetbay.org or the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster at www.ccmnh.org.
Provincetown Off-season
More
and more people are discovering the delight
of a spring or fall vacation or a long
weekend at the tip of the Cape. The weather
is often beautiful. The summer crowds
are gone. And off-season rates
are in effect, saving the vacationer about
30% on most accommodations.
If
you can take a spring or fall vacation
you're lucky. You'll discover a quieter,
more peaceful town, with plenty to keep
you occupied.
And
winter is a delight with crisp, clean
air, spectacular sunsets, and very little
snow, because the surrounding waters keep
the temperature up. Many guest houses,
hotels, restaurants and shops remain open
all winter.
Join
us this Thanksgiving Eve
for
the Annual Lighting of the Monument
when we honor the Pilgrims for landing
in Provincetown in 1620 by lighting the
Monument with 5,000 lights. The town's
restaurants, shops and hotels are open
to welcome you to the celebration which
continues through New Year's. This event
was created by the Provincetown Chamber
of Commerce and is sponsored by the Pilgrim
Monument Association. 508-487-1310.
